Data SGP and How it Can Benefit Educators

Data SGP is an interactive database for tracking student development that enables educators to pinpoint areas of weakness. However, data SGP can often become overwhelming and cumbersome to manage; that is why it is crucial that we understand its mechanisms as well as its benefits to students.

Before using data sgp effectively, it is crucial that the information be ready for analysis. This means clearing away unnecessary information and making it more easily readable – often taking many hours with professional help needed from data analysts. Once this work has been completed it’s essential to assess its educational value in teaching contexts and assess whether any changes can be implemented immediately.

SGP allows educators to easily identify students who are falling behind their peers and provide them with resources they require to catch up. Furthermore, SGP enables educators to set more effective academic goals for each student so they have a clear picture of their progress and can be held accountable for reaching these goals. SGP can also be used to identify high achieving students as well as those needing extra support in order to thrive.

The sgpData_LONG data set contains anonymized panel data consisting of eight windows (3 windows annually) of assessment data in LONG format across three content areas, designed to simulate the format required by studentGrowthPercentiles and studentGrowthProjections functions at lower levels. It contains variables for validation: valid_case, year, studentID, ACHIEVEMENT_LEVEL and SCALE_SCORE that must be provided when running either one of them.

SGP provides geochemical data from a wide variety of sedimentary rock types and locations compiled through member research within SGP and managed by its Geochemical Data Working Group.

SGP has also been collecting and analyzing sedimentary data from numerous locations worldwide for each Paleozoic Epoch and roughly equivalent Neoproterozoic time slice, comprising approximately 300 sites worldwide. This project has already required extensive work in compiling, reprocessing and incorporating this data into SGP databases.

Accurate and timely data is at the core of SGP’s mission. To that end, SGP has established several projects focused on various aspects of data compilation, processing and visualization. These projects involve gathering data from various sources into one database and developing tools to enable visualizing and analyzing this data. These projects are helping to form a comprehensive view of global shale gas resource potential and will ultimately serve as an informed basis for decisions regarding development of this resource. SGP is also in the midst of creating and implementing an expansive web-based information system accessible by all members of its community, to facilitate data exchange, dissemination of scientific knowledge and discussions of technical issues.
