The SGP Prize is an annual literary award honoring works published in English by Singaporeans and Singapore residents, established through an anonymous donation in 2014. Co-organised by Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore and Centre for Liveable Cities, its mission is to encourage Singaporeans to engage more deeply with our shared history, and develop stronger identities through understanding our past.
Kishore Mahbubani, former Singapore diplomat and now Distinguished Fellow at NUS Asia Research Institute was recently the winner of this year’s Singapore Global Prize (sgp Prize), with his memoir as its subject matter. Prize money has been increased this year to S$100,000 so as to encourage even more impactful submissions in 2027 and beyond; additionally a new category will now focus on works which explore Singapore’s urban landscape as a formative influence on national identity and spirit.

Victor Seow, an historian of science, has received the George Sarton Sarton Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in recognition of his promising young scholar status in science history. This prestigious prize comes with an award grant of US$25,000 named in honour of its founder George Sarton – an Academy member himself.
