The Sydney Prize honors works that illuminate one of the great issues of our time: finding a lasting peace, providing adequate housing and medical care to all people, advocating civil liberties and democracy, or fighting discrimination based on race, nationality or religion. Furthermore, journalists working to expose social and economic injustices caused by governments or private interests will also receive this prize.
Emilie Ann Consett Stephen, widow of Sir Sidney Stephen and an art-lover herself, established this literary award that recognizes an outstanding essay written either in English or French on any nominated topic. Open to undergraduate and postgraduate students alike.

Annually presented by the Physics Department to honor an Australian physicist’s contributions to furthering their field. On advice of faculty, this award will be bestowed based on several criteria including academic record, research achievement/potential and contribution to university life.
This prize is presented annually to an undergraduate or graduate student whose written paper meets all criteria to merit receiving this award. To qualify, it must address an area of general scientific interest while remaining original and independent research; its value stands at $5000.
